Feeling frustrated and confused about your raw food diet? You are only 5 Inspiring Raw food Secrets to a successful lifestyle change. Remember to have fun and enjoy your journey in anything you do. You have all the answers you need right now, just listen.

Raw Food Secrets #1:
Your Why~

Is going 50%, 75%, or 100% Raw a goal of Yours or do you think you “should” do it? Do you “need” to lose weight or be healthy?

This is your journey, your life! The only thing you need or should do is to be, have, do what you want. Only eat what tastes good and only do something that is fun!

In 1998 when I was introduced to this lovely idea I knew I wanted to go raw because:

  • Raw made common sense to me
  • Raw foods tasted wonderful
  • I felt better than ever after I ate them
  • Great for the planet
  • Great for the animals
  • Easy and quick to make

I created this list to cement MY heart-centered reasons. My why grew stronger the more I focused on it and even though it took me a few years to go towards my goal of 100% raw, all I really had to do was keep MY dream of health alive. Create your heart-centered whys and get clear!

Raw Food Secrets #2:
One Day At A Time, Plan & Relax~

Are you one of those people who like to go from A to Z in a moments time? Or is taking your time no matter how long that is more your pace?

You know your time table and eat day is perfect. As long as you are not beating yourself up or feeling guilty for eating this or that then you are on your path. Making healthy choices simply takes a bit of practice soon your choices can become easier and easier.

Years ago I wanted to be a 100% raw. I would eat 100% for 6, 7, even 9 months at a time and then go off. I had this BIG goal of being 100% RAW and I had to do it NOW. When I took a moment and gained a bit of clarity I discovered eating 100% RAW seemed like such a BIG deal I started to feel stress over it. After 4 years I decided I would start making raw choices 1 day at a time.

I started leaning into it by:

  • Buying one raw food book a month
  • Creating a list of recipes for one week at a time
  • Buying and keeping only living foods in the house and with me, all the time.
  • Most importantly: I made choices moment by moment that supported my path.

Focus on your choices moment to moment, plan, stock and keep fresh foods with you no matter where you go. Lean into your desire and feel good about the road your paving ahead.

Raw Food Secrets #3:
Variety Is The Spice In Life~

Are you bored with your current way of eating? Tired of salads and smoothies all the time?

Time to add variety to your life. Although a raw food lifestyle may consist of many salad and smoothie combination's, change the way you prepare them and they will change.

Part of my dream included support from raw food “experts.” I was buying one new raw or living foods book a month. Most of these books had new exciting recipes I would create and change to taste different each time. This process gave me a chance to add variety to my new lifestyle change.

As time went on I started getting so familiar with converting my old cooked favorites to raw ones, I no longer felt deprived. Instead of a salad I would make sandwiches with lettuce or wraps with collard greens. I learned to make a raw version of mustard, ketchup, Mayo, veggie burgers and even the best raw pizza ever! Recently I made raw oatmeal cookies that are to live for.

Use your imagination, get inspired and your possibilities for variety are endless.

Raw Food Secrets #4:
Say Good-bye To Old Food Friends And Welcome Your New Food Friends~

Do you constantly crave the unhealthy foods you no longer want to eat? Feel like if you just had “will power” it would be easier to eat healthy?

Congratulations, you just forgot you were born with a gift. A gift you call “Will Power” without this amazing gift you would not be here today. Life is a miracle, science cannot yet duplicate the spirits ability to be, exist. Pull out your “will power” you forgot about and adopt a new perspective. It can “change the way you look at things and the things you look at WILL change.” How? Create new food friends!

Back in my teen years I use to partake in friendships centered around, drugs and drinking. When I became a mother at 16 years I stopped hanging out with these friends for the most part. Yet they continued to call me up from time to time and I would entertain the usual negative conversation. At times I would even go out and party with them drinking again.

As time went by I realized I did not feel good when I drank and when I hung around these particular friends I would feel very negative the next day. I decided I wanted to stop drinking and start creating positive friendships. The next time they called me up to “party” I simply told them I appreciated all the fun I had with them and that I was a mother now and could no longer be apart of their type of fun. This took a few times before they really got the hint but eventually they went away.

Food cravings are just like these unhealthy relationships I had. After all these foods, like french fries, hamburgers and shakes, have been with you through thick and thin. They don’t judge you or say hurtful things they just like to help you “party” your negative feelings away.

When you decide to start making healthy choices and you are going along quite nicely until one day some old emotions surface. So the unhealthy foods start calling you. “I must need this,” you reason and you eat it. Soon after you may not feel so good and the cycle starts again.

If you really want to start making healthy choices more and more simply have a “talk” with those unhealthy food friends. When emotions come and they will, the cravings or unhealthy food friends come calling. Have a conversation with them and tell them thank you for the good times and decline their offer because you have new healthy food friends now. Eventually those unhealthy food friends will stop calling and your new food friends: apples, bananas and coconuts, will keep you company and you will feel good after.

Raw Food Secrets #5:
Connect To The Memory Not The Food~

Did your mother, grandmother or father make THE best cookies, chocolate, coffee, etc? When you were young did your parents or teachers offer you “treats” for this or that “good” behavior?

Everything in life comes down to connections between one memory to the next. Perhaps as a child your grandmother made you cookies every time you would visit her. The memory of your grandmother with the fresh delicious cookies fells so good. Your connection to your grandmother is related to cookies to feeling good to tasting good to many more possibilities. Every time you go for a homemade cookie your mind relates it to your grandmother.

Years ago I had a friend who was 100% raw except for a slice of sourdough bread every month or two. She wanted to stop this routine and felt like it was the only thing still connecting her to her mother who had long since passed on.

I asked her to close her eyes and describe her connection to the sour dough bread. I said, “Remember all the feelings and memories that come up surrounding and connecting this bread to your mother.”

She told me that her mother burned everything except her homemade sour dough bread. She remembered the smell, the taste of fresh sour dough bread out of the oven. I asked her to take the fresh slice from her mother and set it down. “Now, look your mother in her beautiful eyes and connect to her. Image giving her a loving squeeze and letting her know how much you love her,” I talked her through this process. She began to cry tears of joy and love.

Now she has the real memory and connection direct from her to her mother without the bread. She never ate sour dough bread again. If she missed her mother she would close her eyes and connect to her without the food.

The best connection you can create is to yourself and the love you mirror in those delicious memories. Look deep within your food memory and see past the illusion and straight to the truth!

In appreciation and love,
Darlene
