Inspired RAW, Issue #002 -- Organic Food Information: The great organic experience!
August 20, 2009
Hello and Welcome,

Organic Food Information

Is there really something to this whole organic movement?

Do organic fruits and vegetables really taste different?

Is there really a nutritional value difference in organic vs. sprayed?

When I was young I had no idea there was any other way to grow foods than:

  • Soil
  • Seed
  • Water
  • Sun

Over the past 100 years we have taken the flavor, nutrition, and smell out of fresh foods and tried to push them off as foods. Even sticking a label on it and getting the government to say it is good for you. Is this for real?

After 8 days of organic experimentation I am 100% positive the proof is in the flavor. Join me for more taste sensations and support your local organic farmers.

August 20, 2009 Inspired RAW Issue #002 Organic Foods Information and The Great Organic Experience!

In this issue . . .

  • The Great Organic Experience---Experiment and taste the difference of fresh organic produce. We came, we ate, and we tasted the difference.

Organic Awareness

I have been on this raw journey for over 10 years now. I must warn you when eating raw foods is careful of the increasing awareness it may bring in your life.

In the beginning I had no idea I would be so concerned about organics. After all when I grew up I thought organic was just how foods grew. Is it not?

No, I found out this so-called conventional (spray, soil destructive) growing methods became the standard over the past 100 years. The organic or natural way of growing foods is sold differently, special. After finding this out I feel as if I am in some bad nightmare.

How did we get so backwards? Well without offending our government lets just say they got involved. Any questions? I am sure you get the picture.

What do we do now to undo the unhealthy growing practices surrounding Organics?
We can start:

  • Buying Organics
  • Growing a garden
  • Support organic growing processes
  • Do whatever it takes to keep your food full of nutrients!
  • Get educated and become apart of the solution!

Taste, The Great Organic Experience

My first taste into organics began years ago with bananas. 8 years ago I bought an organic banana and a strayed banana. One taste, and over the past 8 years I have never looked another sprayed banana in the peel again.

Why do organic foods taste different from non-organics?
The taste is in the vitamins and minerals. Without organic, permaculture growing methods soil becomes depleted of all of its vitamins and minerals. The bottom-line no nutrients in the soil no taste in the foods.

In addition, the good bacteria, bugs and other members of the growing team are killed or discouraged and that too takes from the growing process.

So lets start buying and eating organic right? Well almost. I first had to get the whole Navarre crew on board. Blake, my partner, had some time off. We were headed to central California and why not just make an organic experience out of our family trip.

Question: Do organic fruits and vegetables taste better than sprayed?
Mission: Taste a different organic food and non-organic counterpart at least once per day.
Trip: 8 days in California traveling from Orange County, Ca to Santa Monica.
Results of The Great Organic Experience:

  1. Day: Fresh Organic Strawberries: YES! Organic strawberries taste best.
  2. Day: Fresh Organic Avocados: Yes! Creamy dreamy buttery organic avocados taste best.
  3. Day: Just Picked Organic Oranges: Yes! I could not keep enough spare wet clothes to catch all the juice flowing from these organic oranges.
  4. Day: Organic Pistachios: Yes! Ended up buying 4 pounds of organic raw pistachios.
  5. Day: Organic Figs: YES! Tasted like jelly I was just about the only person eating them but do you here me complaining, NO.
  6. Day: Organic Plums Of Many Varieties: YES! Breeana, Blake and I ate all the plums before the day was done.
  7. Day: Organic Melons: YES! How can life get any better than sitting under a tree in the shade enjoying fresh delicious watermelons as they run down your face.
  8. Day: Sprouts and Leafy Greens YES! I love sprouts so much I ate a pound just traveling back home in the car.

Yes, the whole family agreed organic, in-season, foods taste best. In the end we cried because we had to leave our organic growing groups and head back to the dessert. With organic tears of joy I encourage you to do your own fresh organic taste test if possible and support your health and the health of our planet!
